Svítání
Year: 2020
Duration: 8’
Instrumentation: orchestra
Program Note: Svítání, meaning “dawn” in Czech, opens up with suspenseful interplay between winds and piano, a tension that builds throughout and gives way to a grandiose ending, depicting a dark night transitioning to a glorious daybreak. But Svítání is not just a musical simulation of a sunrise. It is in fact something much deeper—a metaphor for hope and new beginnings. With the trying times we currently live in, it can be hard to see a way through the darkness. However, one must remain hopeful and remember that there is always a light at the end of the tunnel, just like we can depend on the sun rising each day. In this piece, I wanted to guide listeners from the darkness into the light, filling them with a sense of hope and renewed optimism.
