Miroirs
Year: 2017
Duration: 7’
Instrumentation: clarinet and piano
Program Note: Miroirs, originally written for clarinet and marimba, is a composition in which I feel my own unique voice as a composer begins to emerge. I titled the composition Miroirs because the two instruments imitate each other closely, yet at the same time they are distinctly different. This is similar to the way in which a mirror shows one a close but not exact image of oneself. In transcribing the marimba part into a piano part, which I did in order to be able to play the piece myself, I added more complex harmonies that gave the composition a richer texture. I experimented with a wide range of tempos and explored diverse sonorities and colors, from the playful, light opening to the somber and mysterious “Lento” section.
